Shanghai Cherry Blossom Festival
SPRING is in the air and now is the perfect time to enjoy a romantic walk beneath the cherry blossom. And there's no need to visit Japan to celebrate cherry blossom season - Gucun Park has it all!
On Friday, Shanghai Cherry Blossom Festival got under way at Gucun Park, which covers 1.8 million square meters on the northern outskirts of the city. The huge forest park has more than 530,000 square meters of cherry trees in blossom, 200,000 square meters more than last year, and features 28 species of cherry in a range of colors. The festival will last a month.
Visitors have plenty of springtime options - from strolling among a sea of flowers to a trip that satisfies cravings for both scenery and tasty food.
A highlight of Gucun Park is its waterside barbecue spots, with 48 standard BBQs and 12 VIP ones. There visitors can grill barbecue goodies while relaxing with family and friends among beautiful natural scenery. Charges to reserve a BBQ spot vary depending on the size of the stand and number in the party. Opening hours are 6am to 6pm.
And if you'd rather let someone else do the cooking, fast-food restaurant options and snack stands are available across the park to cater for hungry and thirsty visitors. Kids can also make goodies at the Bainuo Chocolate Creative Park.
Of course, you can explore the park on foot, but visitors may also choose to rent bicycles or take to the water in pedalos.
A parking lot with 5,650 spaces is opposite the park.
