Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition
THE 15th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition, which runs through April 29 at Shanghai New International Expo Center, is set to see a record number of global debuts for the event.
The exhibition covers an area of some 280,000 square meters - more than 20 percent bigger than the 2011 event. Up to 111 cars will have their world premiere at the show, while about 2,000 exhibitors from 20 countries and regions, whose ranges include 69 concept cars and 91 new-energy cars will be attending. The show is expected to attract 800,000 visitors.
China's domestic carmakers - including the country's six major players, FAW, SAIC Group, Dongfeng Motor, Chang'an Automobile, GAC Group and BAIC Motor - will be seeking to demonstrate newfound confidence and strength.
Global giants, such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Toyota and Chrysler, are also gathering for the show.
In addition, luxury car brands, including Porsche, Maserati, Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Bentley, Rolls-Royce and Bugatti, will give visitors a spectacular visual experience.
New-energy vehicles will be among show highlights. Denza, a new electric vehicle jointly developed by BYD and Daimler, is being showcased. And with a century of history, Detroit Electric will unveil to the world commercial-scale electric vehicles.
Taking the theme "Innovation for Better Life," the exhibition is not only a reference to innovative developments of China's automotive sector, but also to how modern cars are focusing on new technologies and environmental protection, rewarding drivers and their passengers with an enhanced lifestyle, say organizers.
Visitors planning to drive are warned that there could be congestion. Facilities include cafeterias and lounges.
