Shanghai Lotus Exhibition
THE first Shanghai Lotus Exhibition, featuring more than 350 species of lotus in a 1,000-square-meter pond exhibition area, will run through August 28 in Guyi Garden.
The two-month exhibition promises visitors many rare varieties, including "red peony," "space No. 36," "big brocade" and "drunken concubine."
Pot-cultivated lotus placed in parks are designed to be close to people so visitors can take photographs and appreciate them more conveniently.
For lotus food fans, they have the opportunity to try fresh lotus root, lotus seeds and dishes and snacks made from lotus.
There are two other destinations for admiring blooms during the festival.
People's Park is a popular spot for viewing lotus flowers. There's a pond full of pink and white lotus, and boats can be rented. A children's playground is nearby.
The small pond is known as Bicui Lake, meaning a lake with pure water and fresh plants. The Museum of Contemporary Art is near the lotus pond.
The Art Lab inside the museum is a good spot from where to take photographs of the flowers.
And after the famous cherry blossoms festival at Gucun Park in spring, lotus flowers provide another reason for photographers and flower lovers to visit.
Visitors can cycle or walk to the main lotus pavilion for the best viewing spot in Gucun Park, which is also home to many other types of interesting plant life.
