Tiny Happiness from TANGO’s Comic

TANGO (Gao Youjun), a famous Chinese cartoonist, has brought his comics to Shanghai with the exhibition “Doors,” featuring different themes, including life, religion, the Internet, food and animals.

The exhibition is divided into nine different fantastic worlds, which are connected through nine doors, and was inspired by playing cards. TANGO wanted to create a house of cards on which his works are presented.

TANGO was born in Shanghai and started learning drawing from childhood.

He studies mathematics at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and industrial design at Tsinghua University.

In his daily life, he runs an advertisement company.

In the end of 2010, TANGO painted an elephant, using its ivory to dig nose excrement. Then, he decided to draw one comic every day. Now, “One Day One Painting of Tango” has become TANGO’s famous hashtag on Weibo, where he has over 1.3 million fans. So far he has created nearly 3,000 works, and his painting style is simple and monochromatic, sometimes without reason or meaning in an attempt to make people laugh.

In 2016, Tango’s first formal solo exhibition was held in Chelsea Market in New York. His exhibitions were also held in Paris and Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. He has published four books: “Backside of the Moon,” “I Have A Dream,” “Sleepless” and “No Wi-Fi.”
