Children, families at center of Nordic design week

THE fourth annual Nordic Design and Innovation Week comes to a close today at Life Hub @ Daning. Under the theme of children and youth, this year’s event, as usual, showcased ideas and practices from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden during 10-days of seminars, events and workshops.
As Jan Wahlberg, Consul General of Finland, said during the opening ceremony, the event “is an amazing platform to promote the Nordic way of living.”
A selection of exhibitors from the Nordic nations gathered in a large transparent tent installed at the central plaza of the shopping center. Visitors were treated there to an overview of the Nordic design and culture. There were also displays of Nordic children’s products.
Young attendees were invited to join a variety of games and activities, including playing and taking pictures with characters from the “Angry Birds” franchise. The hosts also organized children’s reading events.
Adults, especially new parents, were welcomed by a series of Nordic products for babies and toddlers, from furniture pieces to foods. Among the companies represented were Baby Box, a Finnish brand launched in 1937. The company has made a name for itself in its home country with its gift boxes filled with goodies for new parents. Now it is trying to expand into the Chinese market.
Meanwhile, Babybjörn, a baby care brand from Sweden, displayed not only their renowned baby carriers but also their car seats for babies and toddlers.
The hosts also organized lessons on how to make typical Nordic dishes, giving little hands an opportunity to help make some seasonal treats.
Although the event is winding down, there are still events scheduled for today.
