A dash of boho and a place to enjoy the spring sun

BANDIT is a street-front, four-level house dedicated to all-day moments over food and drink.

Facing leafy Julu Road, in Jing’an District, it features a great central location and rooftop terrace for sun seekers to indulge in the perfect weather these days.

Bandit is owned by the same team behind Barbarian, Bites & Brews, Nomad and Solana.

It is designed as a destination inspired by American celebrity lifestyle. It brings the vibe of a villa party with backyard BBQ with friends and music.

Each level is created with different style and atmosphere. From the second to the fourth levels, the space is decked with an exotic bohemian-style and Moroccan chic. Moroccan decor has become trendy because it’s boho and shines with bright colors. It’s especially nice for outdoor lounges and terraces. Spring is the best season to sit outdoors, on the fourth floor and the rooftop terrace, with beautiful views of the neighborhood.

Bandit provides an all-day American-style brunch with a menu focusing on American smoked grills, all guided by the group chef Todd Losacco.

They have a special smoker to smoke meats. Brisket, for example, is smoked for 18 hours. Texas-style pork ribs, smoked Cajun chicken and sausage are also available.

I liked the Cajun chicken the most. The chicken is seasoned with classic Cajun spices and the result was delicious with a crispy, blackened crust that forms around the juicy, tender spring chicken meat.

For the brunch, they have the usual eggs Benedict, smokehouse omelet, breakfast plate and fried chicken waffle. The fried chicken waffle is a beloved brunch food and it turned out well executed. The chicken was again very tender and juicy. I also picked the grilled seafood salad for sharing. But it’s a less satisfying dish compared to some of the others.

Drinks also support the party concept here with customized mocktails and cocktails created by mixologist Sasha Bondi. Customization not only applies to the cocktails but to the coffee selection. One can choose the preferred coffee type, the production origin of the beans, and the choice of milk. Flavor tips of different coffee beans are included on the menu.
