Mia Fringe benefits, affordable indulgence
A multi-sensorial concept space has opened its doors on Huaihai Road M., allowing swanky locals to dine, shop and pamper themselves all under the same roof.
Mia Fringe is an ultra-chic two-floor, 1,600-square-meter space where you can tuck in to comfort bites and segue into browsing exclusive fashion and lifestyle brands for both men and women.
The cafe on the first floor is where passers-by can slurp down a coffee and gobble up a dainty, chatting with friends, if they have them. The second level is where the all-day restaurant resides in all its sleek trendiness.
The marble and mirror bar and lounge area luxuriates at center stage, an ideal place to relax and admire yourself.
Neutral shades conspire to make the Mia Fringe dining room one of the nattiest spots along the street for those who come to quaff and scoff at lunchtime, or when the dinner bell rings.
I visited the restaurant recently for an unexpectedly quiet lunch as the Mia Fringe is so new it hasn’t yet become part of the social maelstrom of the local beau monde, but it surely shall.
The elegance of the setting will be magnet to those urbanites who love opulent surroundings.
The menu is disarmingly comforting and unpretentious. I had no hesitation in tucking into silky scrambled egg with tender pink shrimp, a dish only slightly reminiscent of its Cantonese peer. A sliver of black truffle ensured the starter was not too unpretentious to be true.
There’s not much more comforting than southern-fried chicken waffles, the ultimate combination of sweet and savory. The chicken perhaps wasn’t quite “southern-fried” enough for my taste, but hey, if you ain’t never been to Louisiana, it’s a pretty decent choice.
The all-day brunch menu features a pretty standard range of brunchy items, all a little jazzed up. Except for the oysters, nothing on offer costs more than 100 yuan.
It’s also a place to sip tea and nibble on sandwiches and cakes. “Afternoon Treat,” at 298 yuan for two persons, includes two cups of coffee or tea. An extra 88 yuan will get you two glasses of sparkling rose.
