Take your time on Taikang Road
THE short road that runs between Sinan Road and Ruijin Road No. 2 was once an unexceptional downtown strip. Today, not far from the famed Tianzifang arts and crafts complex, Taikang Road itself is blossoming into a vibrant area of art and culture.
The ever-changing 420-meter-long road boasts some of the city's newest and most chic attractions, such as the one of the largest shopping malls, the SML center; the Liuli glass art museum, and an eclectic mix of shops featuring art, fashion, design, as well as good food and wine.
It's pleasant to walk and shop a little, then duck in for a coffee or try a healthy, low-calorie lunch in a new restaurant. It's an ideal place to observe a vivid street scene and enjoy a leisurely stroll away from high-traffic streets.
Liuli China Museum
The four-floor Liuli China Museum is definitely the most eye-catching spot on Taikang Road - one exterior corner is covered by a huge splash of white glass peony petals. It is the first museum in China that features a comprehensive contemporary collection of liuli (glass works) art from China and overseas.
Works of some of the best artists in the world are showcased, as well as glass artifacts. The museum was founded by renowned glass artist and sculptor Loretta Hui-shan Yang and her husband Zhang Yi. On the ground floor are a cafe and gift shop offering items from promising glass designers, and various accessories and souvenirs. With its cozy, inviting interior, the cafe Xiao San Tang is an excellent spot for those seeking a good, healthy meal, or just a glass of wine on a Sunday afternoon.
Admission: Free until November 1 after the Expo ends; thereafter 20 yuan.

They include probably the most famous Finnish brands littala and Marimekko, traditional Finnish design Aarikk, and a product line created by the glass artist and designer Markky Salo.
