3D films make a splash at festival
THIS year the Shanghai International Film Festival will present eight 3D films. They include the documentary "TT3D: Closer to the Edge," Thai horror film "Dark Flight," "Legends of Valhalla: Thor" and the Disney animated classic "The Lion King."
Two animations about Nordic fables will also be featured this year; both are great for families with kids of all ages. "Wickie and the Treasure of the Gods" is a German film about Wickie, a young boy who leads the mighty Vikings on a dangerous journey to rescue his father. "Legends of Valhalla: Thor" is an Iceland production that takes a humorous look at the Thor story.
Meanwhile, the South Korean thriller "The Host" tells about the arduous fight between a South Korean family and a hideous monster that emerges from the Han River. The film, with a hint of political sarcasm and metaphor, set a box-office record in South Korea in 2006.
It was also honored the best film at the Blue Dragon Awards and the first Asian Film Awards. Director Joon-ho Bong was named best director at that year's Grand Bell Award.
Other thrillers include Swiss director Markus Welter's "One Way Trip," which unfolds when eight youngsters embark on a horrific journey to camp in a suburban forest.
