Globe-trotting designer has eye for sophistication
WHO is she?
Born in London, Tina Green spent her childhood between Hong Kong and Japan. After graduating she pursued a career in the diamond industry whereupon she met her former late husband. They moved to South Africa, where Green opened her first fashion boutique in Johannesburg before moving to London and opening another fashion boutique on Sloane Street.
With the rapid growth and expansion of her husband’s department stores, Green started designing the layouts and interiors, marking the beginning of her career as an interior designer.
Fourteen years ago she was hired to design the interior of a yacht and during this project she met Pietro Mingarelli, an established architect, designer and builder. A successful partnership was born and their vision and design style meshed, leading them to complete various projects like yachts, apartments, houses and private airplanes.
Now residing in Monaco, Green and Mingarelli own Green & Mingarelli Design SARL.
Tell us about some of your works, and the one you are most proud of.
I have done many works and interiors that I am very proud of, however, I would say that the one that gives me the most satisfaction has been to create for Lalique the range of LaliqueMaison.
Traveling the world and seeing pieces of our creations in different homes and different countries gives us the most amount of pride along with the opening of Lalique Shanghai in ifc mall Pudong.
What projects are you working on now?
My business partner and I have been involved with the entire exterior and interior design and construction of two yachts. On the 60-meter yacht we have used many crystal elements from Lalique. We are also working on a very large house in Arizona, a Lalique Hotel in Wingen (???Wengen, Switzerland???) and have just finished the Lalique House in Belgravia, London.
Describe your design style.
My style is sophisticated and unique but at the same time comfortable, contemporary, elegant and timeless.
Where are you most creative?
All over the world, especially in Asia.
What does your home mean to you?
My home is my family and everything that I love.
What do you collect?
Asian Art.
Where would you like to go most in Shanghai?
The Bund, I love the atmosphere. I also love old Shanghai, but I’m in awe of Shanghai’s new architectural buildings.
What will be the next big design trend?
LaliqueMaison.
