Behind the label - Laurence Valentine
WHO started it?
Laurence de Gramont created her own brand, Laurence Valentine Artistic Jewelry, three years ago, after working with manufacturers for years and making high jewelry for famous brands. She wanted to have the freedom to give more fantasy and colors to her pieces. The brand made its Asian debut with a private showroom in Shanghai and is now expanding its presence. Pieces have been shown and sold in Australia, South Korea, Japan and Singapore, and are now accessible in China.
What inspires the design style?
The brand is strongly inspired by different ancient arts. For instance, in the Middle East in ancient times, jewelry played a role in magical protection; Egyptian art has produced distinctive, elegant jewelry decorated with engraved stones; while Greek pieces are defined by refinement. Another source of inspiration comes from painters such as Manet, Van Gogh and Picasso, for their choice of colors, and the jewelry artist Rene Lalique. De Gramont adds that as women have different preferences, so the nuances of color, shape, size and clarity of jewelry must be taken into account.
Why we love it?
The "fantasy jewelry" is known for its unique quality of stones and diversity of colors - reds are divided into poppy red, garnet red, ruby red, bronze red and red of China. Such diversity is also true for shapes. These include round, heart-shaped, emerald-cut shape, pear-shaped, oval and so on. Designs are done in-house, at workshops in Paris, Antwerp and Bangkok. Each piece is individually handcrafted to meet the highest of standards.
Where can we see and buy your creations?
The showroom and studio are on 969 Beijing Road in Shanghai and distribution is by a company called Solana in Beijing.
