Denim in demand

ALONGSIDE fresh, vibrant colors and impeccable tailoring as looks for spring and summer, old favorite denim has once again emerged as a trend for the warmer months ahead.

The Miu Miu spring/summer 2013 collection amazes with outfits cut from denim, an unusual choice for Miuccia Prada. The Italian designer has travelled back to the 1950s with her ode to the swing coat and the calf-length pencil skirt - a silhouette that is by now a Miuccia Prada classic.

Bra tops peeping from under denim swing jackets bring a flash of sexiness, while fur stoles and coats give a luxurious, femme fatale quality.

Chanel's denim look for spring/summer 2013 reveals a new, ultra-modern silhouette, a strapless bustier and boxy-shape, shortened-sleeves jacket. Airy, light and energy are three words that perfectly capture the inspiration behind the collection. Once again, Karl Lagerfeld demonstrates seemingly endless creativity.

However, Just Cavalli's denim girls are very different. Roberto Cavalli has always succeeded in championing women's bodies and his denim look is testament to this.

Sexy ripped jeans with fluid silhouettes are paired with floral print shirts, while a cool denim vest is set against wild leopard prints and clashed with abstract florals.

Jean Paul Gaultier has also incorporated denim in this classic, over-the-top style for his spring-summer 2013 collection. Gaultier favors an exaggerated grungy attitude, characterized by upsized fits, sloppy dresses and floor-sweeping shirts.

A cool elegance infuses the Balmain spring 2013 collection, which is inspired by the original "Smooth Operator" herself - sultry, chic singer Sade. A swaggering structure of big shoulders and layering of denim jacket over denim crop top provides a new take on an oversized trend. Tailored jeans come in tight or fluid and high-waisted, cut at a length to show the foot and shoe to perfection.

Among denim brands, G-Star stays true to its denim core by introducing a broad denim collection with new innovations. It features this season a slim and minimalist look, highlighted by a new take on the G-Star Elwood, the introduction of the Contour Skinny and the extended slim fit range for both women and men.

The broad skinny range features the Arc 3D Super Skinny that is sculpted around the legs, the Midge with its "magical" back-pockets and Radar with a modern and feminine high waist.

Sexy and figure-hugging, 7 For All Mankind's classic over-the-knee pencil skirt is never out of fashion.

And the roll-up short and the skinny jeans with pocket embellishments are also easy to pull on, matched with the right T-shirt or shirt.
