Designer credits mom for inspiration

Krisztina Reisini credits her love of hats to her divine, glamorous Hungarian mother who has a big collection of hats.
“In those old days, you couldn’t go out without hats for both men and women,” Reisini said, who is a British citizen of Hungarian heritage, and has lived between London, Paris, Milan and New York. “Naturally I grew up wearing all kinds of hats. Headpieces of all kinds have inspired me throughout my life.”
Reisini started in marketing and photography then moved into interior design, through which she entered the world of high fashion. She started her millinery brand Kreisicouture four years ago.
“I love to put a little bit of glamor and humor into my creations, and I want to bring joy to people’s lives,” Reisini said, adding that she is inspired by everything from old movies, old books, bloggers, street styles and fashion shows, to sculptures in museums and the colors of flowers.
For the summer season, Reisini loves to play with sisal because the material is light and easy to sculpt with. For the colder months, the designer uses a lot of fur, leather, velvet, feathers, satin. volutes, pleats and flounces of fabric that are made by hand without a pattern, following her own stylistic vision and free expression.
Reisini works in her atelier in Milan and presents two collections every year. Each piece normally features four color variations and a lot of pieces are one of a kind and “objets d’art.”
Creating headgear for a private international clientele has given her the desire to increase her circle of collectors who dare to celebrate their uniqueness. “I want women to put on the hats and feel beautiful and confident. As I observed at the Tatler Ball in Shanghai, Chinese women dare to dress up. My customers have personalities and are not afraid to express themselves,” she said.
