Exotic patterns set to warm this fall

ICONIC batik and ikat prints are more popular than ever. For the upcoming fall season, they appear on everything from sportswear-inspired silhouettes to home-deco pieces.

Batik is a cloth that traditionally uses a manual wax-resist dyeing technique. Fabrics with the traditional batik patterns can be found in countries around the world, including Indonesia, China, Japan, Sri Lanka and Nigeria.

Designers have revived the ancient patterns and technique to create dresses, coats, shoes and home-deco pieces. It is highly recommended to wear the exotic patterns with simple, mono-color items. For example, you can pair a traditional batik-patterned skirt with a simple turtleneck sweater, adding chunky, tribal-style jewelry pieces to create an exotic look for the upcoming fall season.

Ikat continues to be a major trend with pieces featuring the exotic pattern popping out at every store from Forever 21 to H&M. However, very different from the prevailing African design this summer, ikat refers to the way of weaving threads into the patterns. When wearing an ikat-patterned item, keep the rest of your outfits simple.

You can also mix the two patterns together to create a more Bohemian, carefree spirit in the look. The two bring out magical chemistry when they are combined together. However, remember to balance the look by adding at least one mono-color piece, such as a gray jacket or a beige cape.

Last but not least, the easiest way to add this trend to your life is to invest in home-deco pieces featuring these exotic patterns, such as a pillow or a new set of dining plates. It will surely help brighten up your mood when the cold season arrives.
