Fashion, fashion everywhere

THE whole city was in the mood for fashion last week. Besides the main runway at the 800 Show, catwalk shows were held around town.

A six-day fashion feast titled "Your Youth Young" was held in Xintiandi Style, one of the latest shopping hotspots in the Xintiandi area.

The shopping mall is home not only to internationally renowned fashion brands but also a cluster of Chinese domestic designer labels such as Tina Gia, JNBY, DBHK, Stay Real, Zuczug and Woo. All presented their latest collections on the runway in the lower level of the complex.

Founded by Taiwan singer A-shin, Stay Real showcased refined street wear pieces of vibrant colors and sophisticated details. JNBY, one of the most successful domestic fashion brands, introduced its new collection of reconstructed silhouettes, neutral tones and washed denim. Accessory brand Woo showed the audience the beauty and versatility of scarves.

At Grand Gateway 66 in Xujiahui, fashion shows titled "Illusion" were staged by international fashion houses such as Moschino, Paul & Shark, DKNY, Atsuro Tayama and Maryline during the weekend.

DKNY sent an array of models dressed up in simple, elegant pieces in a palette of classic hues. Cute tailored shorts were belted with a bow and worn with classic blazers. Moschino's ladies walked out in quirky ensembles defined by red and blue polka dots and stripes.

The runway was also set up in the Fairmont Peace Hotel last Friday, where New York fashion house Marc Jacobs threw its largest-ever catwalk show in Shanghai.

The spring/summer 2011 collection by Marc Jacobs was a colorful reminder of 1970s glamor. It included flowing dresses, wide-leg pants, voluminous shorts, oversized flower decor pieces, frizzy hair and floppy hats. Bright, warm colors dominate with gold, pink, coral, mauve and copper tones taking the spotlight.

It was the first fashion show in the restored Fairmont Peace Hotel.
