Gucci flashes icons
EVERY major fashion house boasts some designs that are timeless. For Chanel, it's the tweed jacket; for Hermes, it's the scarves; for Louis Vuitton, it's most likely the Speedy bag ? and for Gucci?
Most recently, the Italian luxury fashion house brought to Shanghai some of its classic vintage fashion pieces for a gala party held in the city's latest landmark, Happiness Dock.
Among them were the brand's signature duffle bags, beauty cases and printed mini dresses dated back to the 1950s. Also on display were old photos from Gucci's photographic archives and the brand's latest timepiece collections designed by creative director Frida Giannini, inspired by the photos.
"Looking as fresh, relevant and fashionable today as when they were first shot, the timeless quality of these photos reflects Gucci's heritage and its nearly nine decade legacy of quality and innovation," Giannini said.
About 1,000 guests, including Chinese actresses Gao Yuanyuan, Huang Yi and ballet artist Hou Honglan, were invited to the venue along the Bund, where they mingled with top models dressed in Gucci's latest fashion collection.
The key pieces included short, figure-hugging dresses, slim pants and python or leather jackets, all of which were anatomically cut to leave slices of skin exposed. The bold patterns of traditional ikat prints also gave a highly graphic edge to the collection.
