Keep it light, fresh in summer

HEADING into summer, it's no surprise to see a return to minimal, fresh makeup. It's the time of year where less is more because you don't want to be wearing too much makeup that will possibly melt off during the day.

As makeup artist Bobbi Brown declares, "summer beauty is easy and naturally beautiful. It's all about flushed cheeks, juicy, sheer-colored lips and clean, defined eyes."

The newest summer collections of makeup palette reflect fashion's fascination with soft, youthful colors including vivid pink, playful purple and pearly turquoise.

But it can be hard to know what really suits, so get inspired by the summer looks offered by leading makeup brands Guerlain, Bobbi Brown and Estee Lauder.

The Guerlain "Summer Splash" makeup collection channels the colors of the sand and sea. The translucent complexion is created by using Terracotta Illuminating Sun Powder and Meteorites Illuminating Perfecting Pressed Powder.

The sun powder contains a featherweight formula, extra-soft transparent particles and pearly reflections while the pressed powder, inspired by akoya, the seashell from Tahiti, comes in a tonal palette of beige, ivory and pearly pale apricot.

The look puts the focus on luminous skin and beach-inspired eyes. The eyelids are caressed with the shimmering shades of nacre, pearl and sand. The limited eyeshadow palette adopts harmonies of a paradise beach dappled with heat, sun and water.

Bobbi Brown loves sheer colors for summer because "they're wearable, easy and look good on everyone." Inspired by sun-kissed faces and wind-flushed cheeks Bobbi witnessed during a visit to Brittany and Normandy, she created the Nautical Collection which focuses on hints of translucent tints that almost look stained.

The new Sheer Color Cheek Tint gives cheeks a sheer tint of natural-looking color with the lightweight formula blending evenly. Sheer Lilac is featured in the Nautical Look.

Drawing inspiration from the lively bright shades of a fully blooming summer garden and the delectable treats of an afternoon tea, Estee Lauder introduces Vivid Garden, a fairytale-like limited edition color collection for summer 2009.

With floral bright colors for a look of youthful vibrancy, graphic elements and shades of teal, lime and aquamarine complement vivid pinks and purples for eyes, while cheeks blush with a luminous glow and lips tantalize with saturated pigments in creamy textures and sheer glazes.

The look of radiance is created with the limited edition Vivid Garden Illuminating Powder that features three floral-inspired shades lightly dusted with gold. Dust powder on cheeks, face and colletage or anywhere you'd like to add a light touch of luminous summer glow.

As for summer storage of your makeup, it's best to keep these products in a cool dry place.
