Pure, pristine looks own the catwalk

WHITE is back in style. The most eye-catching spring/summer 2013 collections have embraced a lighter, relaxed mood with simple aesthetics.

These aesthetics are best achieved with white. All-white looks are present from sleek outfits to girlish pieces in lace, ruffles and silk. No matter what style, white creates a feminine look with minimal effort.

Chanel

Grace, femininity and lightness came through in Chanel's ready-to-wear spring/summer 2013 collection. A mini jacket was worn over flare dresses trimmed in crisp white while pea-sized pearls adorned white column dresses. An all-white gathered skirt teamed with a bolero jacket with round shoulders and bell sleeves made a strong impression. Pure lines kept embellishments to a minimum while bringing classic Chanel style in line with the latest trend.

Chloe

A paired-down palette and a mix of easy thrown-on shapes and silhouettes dominate Chloe's latest spring/summer collection. It was inspired by the surfer girl who is playful and flirtatious. A lot of whites were seen from swingy caped crop tops and Bermuda-style shorts to oversized tunic tops and inside-outside lattice work skirts and dresses. Ruffles also worked their way onto shoulders and necklines. Rounded and soft volumes were played out in transparent organza silks.

Bally

Inspired by Bally's impressive archive, an elegant new toe shape and fine leather cut work are the graceful hallmarks of this modern collection for spring/summer 2013. While the shoe remains the inspirational force, the ready-to-wear collection declares itself with clean graphic silhouettes in organza, satin and nappa leather used as a whole or part of a garment. White sits alongside soft gold, biscuit and graphic black.

Trussardi

Italian fashion house Trussardi's spring/summer collection is all about contrasts: a traditional spirit and unconventional approach emerge in elegant details combined with menswear-like sartorial cuts. With abundant cream and white shades in the collection, the romantic, feminine character of the Trussardi woman is expressed through light, flowing fabrics.

Shiatzy Chen

The Shiatzy Chen spring/summer 2013 collection is named Perpetuality and found inspiration from the art of "paper cutting." The collection uses translucent and shiny materials such as silk and satin as well as textured fabrics. Several white outfits and dresses reveal a sleekness with calligraphy embroidery that is a reference to Asian art.

The swathes of white in so many of the new collections seem indicative of absolute beauty. Light and neutral, the color goes well with any color in spring and summer season. Beautify your wardrobe this spring by adding white-washed fabrics and textured accessories. Here are some tips for matching:

Whether you wear white or not, a white shirt should be a wardrobe staple. Style simply with tailored trousers or layer under a fine knit sweater or a blazer.

This season a white stiletto is the height of cool. Fashion brands like Trussardi, Chloe and What For all provide great options. Textured white shoes in graphically modern shapes offer a neat counterpoint to hyper-feminine clothes.

A white leather bag can be just the thing for this season. Keep hardwear to a minimum for the total look.

Start embracing white by wearing accessories in different shades such as pearl, cream and pure white.

Shoes put spring

Italian label Tod's once again fuses traditional luxury with contemporary design for its spring/summer 2013 collection. The new season introduces new designs and of course vibrant colors. For women, the Ballerina is still a key style with a unique creation available that is complete with an artisanal, fine wedge. The Gommino leather loafers feature crocodile-print leathers and rich hues. The new suede trench coats in blue and red are the highlight of the ready-to-wear line.

Fountain fix

The Italian fashion house Fendi recently announced it would sponsor restoration of one of Rome's most precious monuments, the Trevi Fountain. Fendi has deep historical ties with Rome, and has always looked to the city for inspiration and cultural stimuli. The restoration of the Trevi Fountain is the first of a series of conservation measures that Fendi plans to support through Fendi for Fountains, a campaign to restore and preserve Roman fountains. Trevi restoration is expected to be completed by 2015.

Easygoing look

French brand Montagut and its other line Latitude have launched their spring/summer collections featuring an unconstrained and natural look. The spring theme Nomadic Elegance features ethnic minimalism and timeless design, with natural silhouettes, delicate details and a peaceful palette including white, limestone, blue-green and black.

The summer collection Palm Springs presents an optimistic and vigorous look, blending straightforward seaside tones with informal elegance. Chambray blue, grenadine red, banana yellow are used with sandy tones, woody beiges, turquoise, and mango colors add passion on the relaxing mood. The Latitude spring/summer collection is more urban, sporty and trendy.
