Trendy winter looks from Europe

FASHION-CONSCIOUS young people in Shanghai wholeheartedly welcome top street fashion brands like H&M and Uniqlo. Now they have one more option. OVS Industry, a leading Italian fast-fashion brand, recently launched its first store in China, in the newly opened Plaza 818 on Nanjing Road W.

The aim is to create "a new fashion shopping experience made in Italy," according to Fabio Pampani, general manager of OVS Industry.

"Our customers will feel the atmosphere of a great Italian shop that offers good quality fashion pieces at smart prices," he says.

A fashion show at the opening ceremony featured models wearing the latest OVS fashions, including "Baby Angel" and "Love Therapy." They are pillar lines created by veteran designer Elio Fiorucci specially for the brand targeting teenager girls.

The two collections feature bright and decisive hues like pink and fuchsia, very rare for the winter season.

They are matched in contrast with classic winter tones of black, gray and other subtle colors.

The key pieces include brightly colored sweaters, mini-skirts featuring tiny floral patterns or checks, chic bloomers as well as trendy rain boots. Of course, there's a collection of cute, girly accessories.

Men can choose from an array of styles, including vintage-style jeans, casual sweaters and slim-fit formal suits.

Opposite to the OVS Industry store on Nanjing Road is Marks & Spencer, which has also launched its winter fashion looks.

The shoulders and waist are focal points of the British retailer's collections for women.

Tightly belted waists and padded shoulders create a strong, powerful silhouette, while the use of sequins, studs, ruffles and laces adds a feminine touch.

Fabrics, especially those full of details and textures, dominate the season. Key fabrics include leather, velvet, jacquard and faux fur.

Men's designs are inspired by classic English gentlemen's apparel featuring monochrome hues as well as innovative colors such as fern green, soft blue and light purple.

The Shanghai store also introduces washable silk blouses and even washable cashmere sweaters ideal for busy office ladies.

Meanwhile, German men's casual fashion brand "camel active" threw a big party in Shanghai to present its 2010 spring/summer collections named "Tribal Routes."

Inspired by African tribes and cultures, the collection mixes modern designs with distinctive African elements such as hand-painted prints and giraffe hide patterns.

The clothes, from trench coats to jackets, from T-shirts to vintage-style jeans, carry out an adventurous, carefree spirit. There is also a mixture of colors and fabrics. The brand, known for its functional jackets, has launched a new style of trench coat made of light, water-resistant material, ideal for spring drizzles.
