Winter brings chance to play with new styles

The best thing about the cold weather for fashionistas has to be the winter styles to play around with. Coats have been and will always be the most important staple in your winter wardrobe. A new coat is winter’s big style investment.

The choices are endless, from oversized to minimalist, richly colored to neutrals and pale, sharply streamlined to eccentric and patterned, short to long.

Nobody can dispute MaxMara’s grip on the coat market, and this season the Italian brand has introduced a classic camel coat that is voluminous in the extreme and styled with pushed-up sleeves. It’s the fruit of extensive research into invariably fine-quality, “voluminous” materials that are often combined in the same outfits, such as maxi-cable cashmere, camelhair and cashmere fabrication, velvet and shearling, or the brand-new camel fabrics, ideal for creating structured shapes that are ultra-soft, enveloping and easy to wear.

Underneath the oversized coats can be big, cozy-looking sweaters, oversized jackets, pencil skirts, or any styling since layering is the key.

Combining an oversized coat and a laid-back silhouette is certainly not easy for everyone to manage. Look for a minimalist style that is sleek, sophisticated and easy to wear. Pieces from Celine’s winter coats can easily adapt to any wardrobe or be the focal point of the entire season. They look sharp worn into the office or with jeans on the weekend. The subtle shades of white, cream powder pink, vanilla and grey melange bring another layer of femininity and will be sure to stay in style for seasons. Celine also introduced egg-shaped oversized coats with dropped shoulders, curved seams and shaped sleeves.

Beijing-based fashion designer Liu Lu’s winter coats for her label Luvon by Liu Lu took on the feminine style in her own way, adding belts for a waisted-cinching effect. The figure-defining coats offer a more feminine option and can be easily mixed with similar pulled-together pieces like an A-line or pencil skirt and pumps.

Regarding the colors, black is classic; camel is a neutral alternative; red is hot; and there are no rules: from pastels and whites to a combination of colors.
