Drone vendor DJI unveils new camera
Drone vendor DJI sees China and the United States as the major target markets for its new camera, thanks to booming demand in sports, tourism and live broadcasting.
DJI’s OSMO Action camera will be in direct competition with GoPro devices.
The new camera, with a starting price of 2,499 yuan (US$367.5), will take 80 to 90 percent of the action camera market, said marketing director Titans Xie, with demand fueled by sports fans and video broadcasters in the coming 5G era which will allow faster connections and easier sharing on social media.
“It’s not just a camera,” Xie said in the company’s flagship store in Xintiandi, Shanghai. “It’s a package of photography services in the digital society.”
Meanwhile, DJI’s camera has the latest stabilization technology and facial tracking and is waterproof.
Reports claimed DJI was facing US administration’s Huawei-like sanctions.
“At DJI, safety is at the core of everything we do. We give all customers full and complete control over how their data is collected, stored and transmitted,” the company said in a statement.
“We are committed to continuous working with our customers and industry and government stakeholders to ensure our technology adheres to all their requirements,” it also said.
