MOST students today aren’t satisfied with books or colorful erasers as back-to-school gifts. Instead, they expect something a little more technologically advanced for the new academic year.
A Kindle e-book reader, an iPad and fitness wristbands are safe but, let’s be honest, uninspired choices. But fear not. Here’s a list of student-friendly techie gear, integrating the latest technology with the demands of campus life.
For sporty types, try the MTG Sixpad, which promises that you can build rock-hard abs while reading a book, or the Ninebot One single-wheel personal transporter. And for those looking to major in fun, the Samsung Galaxy 2, Philips’ wireless speakers and Oppo’s flagship smartphone are made for multimedia play while Xiaomi’s micro-sized router is perfect for a crowded dormitory.
Meanwhile, Smartisan’s entry-level cellphone is ideal for young people, combining colorful design, a reasonable price and a student-only installment plan. So swat up on these techie offerings.
a. Galaxy Tab S2 tablet
The most striking features of the Tab S2 is its thin design — 8 percent way thinner than the already thin iPad Air 2 and about 12 percent lighter than the iPad.
Another highlight of the tablet is the super-AMOLED screen for a vivid color display and multimedia playing and optimization for some serious reading.
It also features fingerprint recognition technology and a 8-mega-pixel camera.

The new Xiaofei smart speakers, co-developed by Philips and Alibaba, features touch LED display, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections and built-in storage space.
It also supports six of China’s top online music and radio service providers including Xiami.com and Qingting.fm. They offer 12 million songs and broadcasts from some 2,000 radio stations around the globe.

c. OPPO R7 Plus cellphone
The OPPO R7 Plus cellphone features a slim design, curved screen and rapid charging.
It has a 6-inch screen with a high-definition 1080 pixel display, curved for better display. It features 8-core processors, 13-mega-pixel rear camera and 3G memory. The Flash Charging function allows users to make calls lasting 2 hours after charging for only five minutes.

d. MTG Sixpad
MTG’s Sixpad is training gear to exercise your muscles automatically while reading, doing household chores or taking leisure trips.
The key technology is called EMS — electrical muscle stimulation — which uses electrical signals to directly stimulate and exercise the muscles.
The Sixpad can be worn under clothing — making it ideal for students wanting to tone up in the lecture theater.

The Ninebot One is an electric single-wheel personal transporter, boasting a quirky round shape and coming in a range of colors, together guaranteed to make it a cool way of getting around campus.

g. Xiaomi Micro-sized router
Xiaomi Corp’s new Micro-sized Wi-Fi router is the size of a business card, offering strong signal with a wide coverage despite of the slim design.
It support signals covering 150 square meters.
“It’s without doubt the best choice for university dormitories,” said Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s chief executive and co-founder.
