Zhangjiang nurtures startups

Zhangjiang, known as the high-tech highland of Shanghai, is incubation home to nearly 2,600 startups and is helping to boost the city’s credentials as a place that offers talent and capital, Shanghai Daily learned yesterday

Some incubation bases offer various services such as public service platforms and patent protection for local and multinational firms in Zhangjiang, located in the Pudong New Area.

A total of 2,586 firms have chosen 86 incubation bases in Zhangjiang and they come from a wide range of industries, according to the new area government. They are involved in developing technologies like artificial intelligence, advanced chip design and manufacture, data analysis, new-technology display and new materials.

International incubation bases have also been created in Zhangjiang, including Sino-German and Sino-Russia innovation centers, as well as a special incubation base IZJ that targets overseas multinationals.

Partnering with over 20 multinationals and 200 investment groups, IZJ has incubated 41 projects with a total market value of 3 billion yuan (US$441 million).
