Amsterdam - Ancient Silk Road artifacts on display in the Netherlands
More than 250 ancient objects such as murals, sculptures, precious silk, silver, glass, gold and terra cotta figures went on display at the Hermitage Museum in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
The exhibition “Expedition Silk Road” offers visitors a glimpse of the long-lost civilizations along the legendary Silk Road.
The century-old trade route threads all the way from ancient China through Central Asia to the West. It was named “Great Silk Road” by German geographer F. von Richthofen in 1877. For some 2,000 years until the 15th century, it functioned as the world’s largest trade network.
The treasured pieces on show were excavated by Russian archeologists in the 19th and 20th centuries. The show runs through early September.
