Australia - Gillard and Big Arnie
AUSTRALIAN Prime Minister Julia Gillard joined forces with former California governor, Hollywood star Arnold Schwarzenegger Thursday to urge global action on climate change.
The unlikely pair met in Perth and jointly penned a newspaper opinion piece. "We know climate change is having harmful effects on our environment and on the economy. And we know the time for action ... is now," they said.
Australia last year pledged to sign up for a second round of the Kyoto Protocol environmental protection treaty.
Schwarzenegger signed a historic bill in 2006 that made California the first US state to impose limits on global warming gases.
