“MR. Deng Goes To Washington” is the new documentary film by Fu Hongxing that opened in Chinese theaters on Friday. It revolves around the late leader Deng Xiaoping’s famous nine-day visit to the United States in 1979. The historic visit was made only one month after the United States established diplomatic relations with China. More than half of the dialogue is in English.
The film reveals some unknown stories, including an attempted assassination of Deng by a Ku Klux Klan member, romance and touching scenes about American women fighting to protect the Chinese national flag.
