Master artworks go under the hammer

ANCIENT Chinese ink-wash paintings, calligraphy, seals, porcelain and contemporary pieces will go under the hammer at Council Auction House at International Conference Center in Beijing on June 3-5.

The 2014 Council Spring Auction is divided into several sections including ancient Chinese masterpieces.

The ancient masterpiece section is highlighted by “Lianzhitu,” created by painter Chen Hongshou (1598-1652) during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

Chen was born in Zhuji, Zhejiang Province, and was famous for his peculiar human figures, landscapes, flowers and birds.

A highlight from the private collector section goes to “Mountain in the midst of Cloud,” created by Zhang Daqian (1899-1983) in 1964. Zhang is one of the best-known and most prodigious Chinese artists of the 20th century.
