Montblanc honors local artist
MONTBLANC celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award at the Yuz Museum, Shanghai, on Thursday. The award ceremony kicked off by honoring Xu Zhen, a Chinese artist, curator and art promoter, in recognition of his contribution to the development of contemporary art and his trailblazing efforts in cultural advancement.
Xu is also the first Chinese artist to participate in La Biennale di Venezia. His practice covers a range of media such as installations, video, painting, performance, sculpture. Xu’s pieces fuse Chinese and Western ideas, and break cultural barriers while revealing social phenomena with his unique style.
Montblanc is a consistent promoter of art and culture around the globe, especially with the establishment of the prestigious Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award. This visionary award has recognized nearly 280 brilliant art patrons from 16 countries and regions, and has donated over 4 million euros (US$4.27 million) to more than 220 cultural and art projects across the globe since its inception in 1992.
Amid an intriguing atmosphere brimming with cultural and artistic vitality, guests at Thursday’s ceremony experiences Montblanc’s century-long tradition of combining inspiring art with impeccable craftsmanship. The recipient of the 2016 Award for China Xu Zhen’s contributions to art was projected on the wall.
