Oslo - Munch's 'Scream'
LONG neglected at home, Edvard Munch is finally to get his due as Norway honors one of its greatest artists with the most comprehensive retrospective ever to mark the 150th anniversary of his birth.
"The Scream", of course, is there. So too are 270 other treasures, including "Madonna," "Vampire," and "The Dance of Life," as well as drawings.
Munch was a pioneer of Expressionism at a time when it was new and dangerous; he explored disturbing and provocative subjects, existential anxiety, death, sickness, puberty and the bohemian life.
The "Munch 150" exhibition at two venues offers an unprecedented look into his long artistic career, from his earliest works until his death in 1944.
