Passing on Chinese heritage
THE showroom of Shanghai Haute Couture Week opened to public this week in A-zenith Art Center, showcasing the art of Chinese traditional craftsmanship. Local brands like high-end qipao maker PLLC, Fangu lacquer ware, designer brand Hekan and STELLA LAM, joined hands together to show the power of “China New Couture.”
As part of Chinese cultural heritage, traditional craftsmanship like making high-end lacquer ware, jewelry, clothes and furniture as well as tea should be passed down through generations.
The Shanghai Haute Couture Week wants to serve as a platform, nurturing those local brands and promote the concept of Chinese Couture to the world stage.
A forum titled “When silk encounters couture” was also held during the week. Experts and big names from the Chinese fashion industry gathered together and discuss topics of how to bring Chinese silk industry into the international stage.
Ge Wenyao, head of Shanghai International Fashion Federation, also one of the organizers of the event, expressed his hope that the Chinese silk industry would be more vibrant and gain world attention through haute couture.
Gao Wei, chairman of A-zenith furniture, said the establishment of A-zenith Art Center is to serve as a culture and art exchange platform. Working with Shanghai Haute Couture Week is just what the center wants to deliver:
“Art Changes Life! Life is full of Art!” he said.
