Pata Gallery hosts artistic tour of Amazon culture
THE Pata Gallery along Moganshan Road, in partnership with the Consulate General of Peru in Shanghai, is now hosting a fascinating exhibition of Amazon-inspired art.
The one-month show, entitled “The Land Where God Did Not Finish Creation,” features works from eight artists who hail from the Amazon region.
“The Amazon is a unique subject that has inspired poets and painters from all over the world, and this exhibition is an attempt to rediscover (the) mysterious element of nature from this region,” said Zosimo Morillo, the Consul General of Peru in Shanghai, who was speaking at the opening of the exhibition on March 18.
The works on display cover a variety of themes, including the coexistence of man and nature, spirituality and the culture of Amazonian cities.
Christian Bendayan, curator of the exhibition and one of the eight artists whose artworks are on display, told the Shanghai Daily that the show is a good opportunity for him and his peers to spread knowledge about Amazonian culture abroad.
Bendayan himself comes from Iquitos, a Peruvian city located within the Amazon Basin.
The artist received the Peruvian National Prize of Culture in 2012 for his contributions to the cultural development of Peru.
