Saudi Arabia - Helping a fat man

One of the world’s heaviest people, a Saudi man weighing 610 kilograms, has been moved by fork lift and transferred to the capital for treatment.

King Abdullah intervened to help Khalid bin Mohsen Shaari, who was unable to move by himself.

The 18 or 20-year-old man lives in a southern border province.

According to Guinness World Records, the record weight for a living person is held by Manuel Uribe from Mexico, who weighed 560kg in 2006.

The case highlights the growing problem of obesity in the Gulf.

Shaari is being treated in hospital with dietary and physical programs. Surgery has not been ruled out.
