Keep it simple this summer

THIS summer's style is all about being chic and cheerful - and not complicated. Try to keep it simple: all you need is a beautiful sundress, a pair of comfortable sandals, a bag spacious enough to carry all your essentials (whether you are in the city or at the beach), a pair of vintage-style sunglasses, a straw hat and, last but not least, sunscreen lotion.

Color blocking is undoubtedly one of the hottest trends this summer. Bold, daring colors dominate the designer runway. Contrasting, yet complimentary, bold and bright colors such as yellow and royal blue, fuchsia and emerald, pair with each other surprisingly well. If you don't dare to wear like models did on/off the runway, you could probably just start with one brightly hued accessory piece, such as chunky, colorful bangles, a pair of eye-catching sandals, a statement bag in bold tones, or even a pair of sunglasses with a colored frame.

Colors, however, are not the only way fashion designers have managed to spice things up, as prints, from leopard to floral, are also big news this summer. Diane von Furstenberg, the print-dress legend, suggests girls "balance prints with solids."

"You could wear all solids and carry a print bag, or carry a solid bag and wear a megaprint," she says.

And don't be afraid to combine prints. Marc Jacobs did so well, aptly mixing stripes and all kinds of floral prints in the spring/summer collection of his secondary line, Marc by Marc Jacobs. D&G sent girls in cheerful, country-style floral prints off the runway, while Prada's banana prints surprised all.

One of the easiest ways to catch up with the trend is to invest in a dress designed in combined prints. And match it with a trendy, solid bag - there are so many new styles to choose from this season, from Chanel's new Mademoiselle handbag to Celine's new Cabas collection available in contrasting color combinations.

Finally, don't forget about skin care, especially when you are at the beach in your sexy swimming costume. Do remember to wear sunblock cream, and give your skin a thorough rest at night with some soothing after-sun lotion and whitening treatment products.
