Plenty to explore in Green City
Biyun — or Green City — is located in the heart of the Pudong New Area, and, as the name suggests, environmental considerations played a big role in the development.
Green City, sometimes referred to as “Little United Nations,” has become a multi-cultural and international community tailored to expats as well as for Fortune 500 companies.
The community features elegant lawns and greenery that offer tranquility for all seasons and a pleasant ride for cyclists.
Green City is reached from the intersection of Biyun and Yunshan roads, where there is a post office on the left-hand side. Cyclists can carry on, turning left on Hongfeng road, then turning right continuing on Yunjian Road and back to the starting point, or just explore the road and streets more randomly.
On Biyun Road after the intersection is the cycling hub in the community — especially for kids — featuring a specialized cycle track.
At weekends and some weekday evenings temporary stalls are set up there where locals can hunt for bargains: from retro handicrafts to exquisite dolls, delicate hair accessories to gaudy dresses, and even pieces of rattan furniture.
The Green Sports and Leisure Center has the largest sport club in Shanghai, Mega Fit Gymnastic Center. It also boasts four grass tennis courts, eight international standard badminton courts, five squash courts, one thermostatic swimming pool and one children’s amusement and gymnastic zone. Alongside the center, there is a football pitch and rugby pitch.
After all that exercise, Green City has plenty of options for putting some calories back with a hearty meal. In the center alone, options include: the Latina Brazilian barbecue, Vietnam cuisine in Huayue Restaurant, Chinese fare at Qian Xiang Ge Restaurant and classy burgers and other dishes at Blue Frog.
On Biyun Road itself are more cafe and restaurant options, plus stalls with everything from books and DVDs and flowers.
Continue along to Hongfeng Road, and you will discover a church by the riverside, among willow trees.
Or turn left onto Lantian Road, where there is a little play park, where kids can have fun on slides and swings. Surrounded by greenery and neat lanes, the little park is an ideal spot for rest.
And if you want to combine a relaxing time in Green City with some retail therapy, there are plenty options.
Stores such as Carrefour hypermarket, Decathlon sport goods supermarket, B&Q DIY and home improvement store and many others can be found in the community.
