Shanghai Daily: What have you achieved during the past decade?

TANG Longbao: It's not really a matter of what I have achieved. The question should be what have Danyang glasses makers achieved. We have grown into one of the world's largest suppliers of optical glasses, and we have participated in drafting the county's first standards for the industry. I believe, when it comes to glasses, Danyang is the first name that pops into people's minds.

SD: What's the biggest mistake most businesses in your area make in looking at the future?

Tang: Glasses makers in Danyang, or even in China, need to understand the importance of uniting in order to compete with the big European brands, instead of fighting in competition with one another.

SD: What would you most like to see in China's development planning?

Tang: More support for Chinese glasses makers.

SD: What's your biggest concern?

Tang: We shouldn't confine ourselves to manufacturing for foreign company brands. We need to build our own domestic brands.
