Advice: Balance school and social life

ALTHOUGH I am really happy that the chapter of high school is behind my back, the thought that I won't see my classmates in the British International School Shanghai common room makes me sad.

I am going to University of Toronto Scarborough for a degree in Co-op Management and International Business.

I joined BISS two years ago and I started my IB Diploma courses. It's a great school with a highly professional teaching team, amazing facilities and ECAs. The Pudong campus builds a perpetual relationship with every student and supports him throughout the toughest moments in IB.

At BISS every day was special and routine-breaking, even with the same classes and schedules. Teachers managed to teach new material in an extraordinary way. Whether there were real-life simulations, video visualization or lectures, my classmates and I always enjoyed the new things we learned.

The prom was the most stunning moment of my life, which I will always remember. The picture of all my friends with their families celebrating the last seconds of our high school life was amazing. The feeling that we have accomplished something significant and finishing the IB Diploma proved that I am ready to delve into the university world and I am convinced that after such a thorough academic preparation I will "be the best I can be." BISS motto is "Helping others to be the best they can be."

One of the most memorable moments was my first day of school in introductory sessions. All students were confused and worried that IB might be too hard. We thought we might fail. I will always remember that the principal said, "We won't let you fail. We will always support you." And the whole school team put their entire energy into helping us to succeed and graduate.

I never attended other international schools and I consider BISS the greatest and most valuable experience in my life. International education enables students to explore diverse cultures and traditions, after all, all students have different perceptions of life, gained in their native countries.

If you haven't done the whole IB Diploma, it is really difficult to establish a strategy or studying plan, because the work in IB is separated into different stages. In both years the level of difficulty increases. Personally, I tried to focus on the current task and meet all the deadlines.

I plan to join a hotel management internship and also I started a book about the relationships between the international students. The only advice that I want to give them is to be balanced and do not allow school work to replace your social life or vice versa. If they stick to that simple rule, they will enjoy their high school life.
