Art adds meaning in my life

ART has a very indistinct meaning. It can be anything or simply nothing, depending on your perspective. It’s broad enough to cover almost every aspect of our lives, but people nowadays still ask this question: “Why do we need art anyway? Does it even benefit students academically?” As someone who has enjoyed art throughout my lifetime, I have to say it does. Art triggers creativity and a sense of emotional balance. We students force ourselves to come up with an infinite amount of ideas, constantly telling ourselves, “Just one more, just one more... It’ll definitely be better.”
I remember once, my art teacher told me to think of four ideas and use the fifth one! Perhaps that is what motivates every art student onto a bus tour into the heart of culture, humanity and nature. Art is about experiencing the world around you, embracing exploration and producing your own unique works that speak volumes about you.
Personally, art did a lot more than just open up my creativity. It gave me a chance for a glimpse into foreign cultures and actually helped me to understand myself. In my high school experience of art so far, I’ve started to reflect and think more about what my interests are and what interests me; something I wouldn’t be doing in any other class because we usually take in facts rather than focus on inventing all our own ideas.
The center of art is personal and it revolves around me, it builds up my self-esteem throughout the process as well as helping to develop my own identity. Visual art helps me observe, feel, listen, smell and think about my surroundings in different ways. And perhaps, that’s what is most important in education: to be aware of yourself and how your environment and the knowledge you have within affects you.
