First high school graduates
SHANGHAI United International School Gubei Secondary produced its first generation of high school graduates in June.
It was exciting to see the long list of students' acceptances from the world's top universities, a testimony to the academic success of Xiehe international education. These graduates are composed of local Chinese and many international students from the UK, USA, France, Singapore, Canada, South Korea, Italy, the Netherlands, Kazakhstan and other countries.
They started their education in Xiehe between two and seven years ago. Some had received international education from childhood, while others were transferred from other Shanghai schools. No matter what educational pathways they have experienced before, students still maintained their dream to be admitted by the very best overseas universities on completing secondary school.
Thirteen of the university offers SUIS Gubei Secondary received this year came from the world's top 100 universities, including University of Cambridge, UK, University of Toronto and the University of Hong Kong. That equates to almost one offer from a world-class university per student, placing SUIS Gubei Secondary as a leading academic school in China.
"What we focus on is ensuring our students receive a world-class all-round international education, in which our students strive to be the best academically and at the same time become responsible model global citizens - world leaders of tomorrow," said James Morris, the Vice-Principal of SUIS Gubei Secondary. "We would like to see our students reach our high standards as well as getting top grades. After entering a world-famous university, our students are expected to continue to excel in their new environment.
"The parents and students deserve nothing less. They expect and we deliver more than mediocrity. Excellence is the minimum standard at SUIS Gubei Secondary."
