Graduating brings out personalities

JUNE has always been bittersweet. I love to welcome summer, but I also must say good-bye to many close friends. But this year, we are all parting and beginning our new adventures in the fall. I will always hold dear my high school memories.

I had been at the same school for 13 years in Tokyo until the great earthquake and tsunami pushed us to China in 2011. Since then, I've made close friends and I will always remember my new friends here, as well as my old ones in Tokyo, and what they all taught me.

I will remember different fashions in my class. Towards the end of the year, a shy friend jokingly agreed to go to class with me dressed as punk schoolgirls, wearing wigs and leather jackets. I didn't think she would actually do it and I was completely shocked and delighted that my friend was coming out of her shell. I like that people are not afraid to try new things and be different.

Graduating, knowing we are moving on to bigger places has brought out inner personalities and made us more confident and outgoing.

I will attend Simon Fraser University in British Columbia. I hope to teach in an international school and travel around Asia, working, experiencing different cultures and, hopefully, meeting my high school friends again.

To the Class of 2013, I love you all so much, and thank you for making my stay in Shanghai memorable. I will always appreciate the care you showed me. Best wishes to you all!
