Pupils Promote Peace

Celebrations of Peace One Day are held across the world on September 21 and in British International School Shanghai's Nanxiang campus students have been thinking about what peace means to them and learning what they can do to contribute to peace around the globe. Students celebrated the day by painting a Peace One Day bench, presenting poems and videos about the values associated with peace, printing the word "Peace" on T-shirts, making paper doves, and designing and painting fabric squares for a Peace Quilt.

Sports Day Spirit

Last Saturday morning saw the Shanghai United International School Shang Yin campus' annual Sports Day take place. Students had been practicing their entry parade and training for the events during their PE lessons in the weeks running up to the event. Parents displayed their school spirit by wearing the color of their child's "House."

Friendship Song

Ron Daelemans, the director of the Koninklijke Harmonie Philomena Holland, composed the music for a song celebrating global friendship written by the students of Shanghai United International School. The students performed their song and a Chinese fan dance with the orchestra at?Shanghai Oriental Art Center on October 18.?

Gumboot Dancing Comes To Dulwich

Six dancers from the Kilptown Youth Program in Soweto in Johannesburg, South Africa entertained 200 children from Dulwich with their energetic dance on October 18. The team hosted dance workshops for children in Reception, Years 1 and 2, teaching them how to stomp their feet and perform the gumboot dances, which originated from the workers in the gold mines of 19th-century South Africa.

Panda Ming Ming's Adoption Is Official

Students, staff and parents from Dulwich's Junior School visited the Chengdu Panda breeding center in early October to take part in the official adoption ceremony of Ming Ming, the two-year-old male panda the school adopted earlier this year. Zhang Zhihe, director of the Chengdu breeding center, presented the official certificate.

All That Jazz

The Shanghai American School's Pudong Middle School Jazz Band performed a 20-minute set at the recent JZ International Jazz Festival at Century Park to a large appreciative crowd. The MS Jazz Band is made up of students of Grades 6, 7 and 8.

4,000+ Flock To Fair

More than 4,000 people attended the 16th Annual International Fair at Shanghai American School's Puxi campus on October 16, hosted by the Parent-Teacher-Student Association.

International Day at WISS

Students representing 34 nationalities celebrated the International Day at Western International School Shanghai. After one glorious Opening Parade with all the children carrying their national flags and dressed up in their national colors, the day was packed with activities and performances from all the different countries. One could enjoy everything from Lithuanian folk songs to "Finnish Forest Troll Dance" performed by the Finnish children.

Children Build Dream City

The German Academic Exchange Program invited children from the Shanghai Rego International School to join the Children's University at the Passive House at the World Expo Shanghai. The children contributed to a construction of their dream city before receiving a diploma.

Watching Them Grow

Austen Morris, who sponsored the Organic Garden at the Shanghai Rego International School, kindly gave every child a bucket and seeds for the new term. There are now many happy gardeners at the school and they are sure to see the growth of the garden very soon.
