See your next move as a new opportunity
BEING an expat generally means leaving your original country of residence to live in a new country. Regardless of where you come from, or your destination, the experience of transferring from one place to another - for new opportunities or greater benefits - is fairly similar.
To begin with, you will have nostalgia for the place you previously lived, regardless of any opinions you have of it. Something about your original place of residence stays in your mind, and it is hard not to think about it. You may even feel sad at first about this new change, but believe me, having moved across different countries five times, it will get better. You will begin to enjoy your new city, with new people, and new opportunities. You can start fresh, change your outlook and try to think differently. You may find the "new you" to be better than before.
Later on, you will begin to feel you like the new city. You feel like you have a place in society. You will simply feel normal. You will have friends, and the new opportunities will lead you to realize that the world, in general, is not as small as you thought. The world will begin to feel smaller and you'll feel as if you are a conqueror.
Although the previous statement is a joke, you will feel bigger and think that the rest of the world is closer to you, thus making you think that your options in life are now greater as a result of this. The introduction phase of just moving to your new home has ended. You are now living among people as though part of their society.
After living in your new city for a year or so, you will realize that you now have attachments to it, such as friends, jobs, opportunities and even culture. You might like your new city so much that you may not want to leave. But the time will come when you will have to say goodbye. Life changes. You will follow a certain path, and you can see your next move as another opportunity. Enjoy your new place of residence, because one day, the new place will become a chapter in your life that you've lived. Make this a chapter in your life that will be one of the greatest you'll ever have.
