Skills more important than grades

MY goal, academically, has always been to keep schoolwork interesting. The reasoning behind this was that excellence and effort would naturally follow interest. While I found this method to be highly effective, the most challenging part was being able to make classes appealing.

Teachers often remind us that the skills we develop through classes are far more important and valuable than the quantitative grades we earn, and I would have to agree with them. In order to achieve a "good academic performance," students must not only immerse themselves in course materials, but also utilize effective study techniques and manage time properly. High school serves as preparation for college, and skills developed in high school are arguably more useful in college than the information taught in high school classes.

I've always found extracurricular activities to be more fun and interesting than class work, and, as a result, I have dedicated a large amount of time to activities outside of class. One of the greatest challenges I faced was allocating time between class work and other activities. I improved my work ethic significantly when I took on more extracurricular activities and had less time to do schoolwork. It forced me to complete schoolwork more efficiently. I recommend others take a similar approach.
