Strong foundation

AT the start of yet another school year, we students delve once again into the world of learning, revising and studying. However, for us Year 11s, this year is more important than most, as this year, we take the IGCSE, the two-year course in preparation for IB. For many of us, the main goal of this year is to study hard for the IGCSE. In fact, some of our time will soon be taken away from sports, family and games, just to get a better grade. However, I feel that this year is about more than just studying; I feel this year can offer us more.

Of course, I don't deny studying is very important. However, as the end of secondary school approaches, we really need to start preparing ourselves for what is to come. At school, not only do we learn about the world around us, but we also create habits that will affect the rest of our lives. Studying not only teaches us about the past and guides us in the present, but also shapes our future.

So, my main goals this year are to not only study my hardest, but also to keep pursuing my interests, such as different sports and music. I believe that setting a strong and sturdy foundation at school can help me be successful, fulfil my childhood dreams and even pursue new interests.

At school, I believe you should not measure how "successful" you are by merely looking at the grades of your end-of-year exams. Instead, look at the process that brought you to your final mark. I have come to realize that the most important part of school, like anything in life, is not in the end, but in the journey.
