The protection of marine ecology starts from me
PLASTIC is widely used because of its stable nature, lightweight and plasticity, etc. Behind the annual global production of billions of tons is the average use time of less than 25 minutes, the degradation rate of more than 100 years, only 9 percent of the recycling rate and nearly 6 billion tons of plastic waste in the natural environment. These plastic wastes enter the ocean due to uncontrolled disposal, and some of them undergo physical, chemical and biological processes to crack into plastic fragments or even microplastics, triggering visual pollution, biological entanglement, fishery yield reduction, navigation safety, organism accumulation and other problems, seriously affecting the health of marine ecosystems as well as the sustainable development of the marine economy.
President Xi Jinping pointed out that “the development of the marine economy must not be at the expense of the marine ecological environment, cannot take the path of pollution first and then governance, must adhere to the policy of development and protection at the same time, and comprehensively promote the sustainable development of the marine economy.” As a pioneer, I think the protection of marine ecology should start from me. I propose the following four suggestions.
1. Strengthen public awareness of marine plastic and increase public willingness to participate.
2. Improve the existing participation methods and broaden the breadth of public participation.
3. Strengthen investment in marine plastics research and promote public participation.
4. Support relevant marine social organizations and improve public participation.
