Singapore GP ensures action and entertainment on and off the track
THE world witnessed its first ever night race in Formula One history in September 2008 and for two years nothing else has come close to the Formula 1 Singtel Singapore Grand Prix.
The only pure night race on the F1 calendar has produced drama, excitement, spectacle and, above all, a great weekend of entertainment both on and off the track, earning itself an instant reputation for appeal.
Since its debut, the Marina Bay Street Circuit has caught the attention of an international audience who witnessed a spectacular view of cars racing past historical landmarks and modern skyscrapers under a canopy of stars and some 1,500 lighting projectors illuminating the street circuit.
Held on public roads in the heart of downtown Singapore, the Marina Bay Street Circuit is within walking distance to five-star hotels, shopping malls, renowned food establishments and even a soon-to-be-opened casino. With five subway stations bringing spectators right to the doorstep of the circuit park, the 2010 Formula 1 Singtel Singapore Grand Prix is easily the most accessible event on the motor sports calendar.
This year, Singapore GP has released a new Premier Walkabout ticket that allows fans access to Zone 1, the nerve center of the race, and the rest of the circuit park. Having a three-day Premier Walkabout pass allows fans to watch the action along Republic Boulevard where the cars approach the sweeping right-hander at Turn 5. At Turns 22 and 23, spectators can see drivers entering the pit lane or heading toward the chequered flag.
Premier Walkabout patrons have access to specially designed bleachers located at strategic locations around the circuit park to maximize viewing opportunities, as well as entertainment offerings throughout the circuit park.
Non-stop action
Apart from the thrilling action from support races such as the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia and Formula BMW Pacific, previous years have seen international acts from the likes of soul-queen Chaka Khan, pop artists Backstreet Boys, rock-band Travis and China's queen of folk, Sa Dingding, keeping spectators' adrenaline pumping throughout the Grand Prix weekend with their electrifying performances.
Due to favorable response, Singapore GP has boosted the excitement quotient for the2010 event with about S$5 million (US$3.6 million) worth of entertainment across the circuit park, ensuring great value-for-money tickets.
A draft line-up for 2010 will be announced in due course.
From September 24-26 this year, Singapore GP will continue to enthrall spectators with its unrivalled hospitality service and non-stop live entertainment which in the past also included non-staged acts such as deejay Carl Cox and even circus troupe Cie des Quidam, transforming the circuit park into one big carnival.
World champions Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton were crowned king of the Marina Bay Street Circuit in 2008 and 2009 respectively.
With groundbreaking rule changes, different driver allegiances, new teams and the highly anticipated return of F1 legends, anticipation will build about who will rule the streets this year.
With only two weeks left for fans to benefit from early bird savings for the event, Singapore GP is offering 25 early birds more reasons to buy tickets before May 1.
To allow fans to enjoy significant savings, Singapore GP has launched an early bird phase, which expires on April 30, with three-day tickets ranging from 823 yuan (US$120) for a Zone 4 Walkabout ticket to 5,332 yuan for a Pit or Turns Grandstand ticket. These season passes include a separate ticket for each day.
Fans who purchase their tickets during the early bird phase will not only enjoy up to 17 percent off ticket prices sold in the regular phase, which starts on May 1.
Singapore GP has specially reserved for 25 lucky ticketholders the chance to win a pair of tickets to see their favorite F1 drivers up-close at an exclusive Driver Autograph Session.
To participate, early bird ticketholders just need to register their ticket transaction number (listed on the confirmation email or receipt) on the official Singapore GP Website, www.singaporegp.sg.
Winners from the ballot will be notified by email, and will receive a pair of tickets to the autograph session and an exclusive pre-event cocktail reception.
Applications for this draw will close on May 1 (11:59pm, Singapore time).
