Hu La! Mahjong English: Learning By Gaming
For those who find learning English difficult, playing Mahjong could be the way to go.
Students of Grade 9 at the Jitou Middle school in southwest China's Chengdu City were encouraged to play “Mahjong for Studying English” recently, thanks to Principal Tian jingyun, reported West China Metropolis Daily.
In place of traditional characters, this Mahjong had English letters showing up at varying frequency. For example, there are eight Is and four Cs in a set of Mahjong.
The game begins with messed-up letters. Students pick up the letters and try making a word from it.
One who makes the highest numbers of words, and use them to make up a sentence or a story becomes the winner.
Principal Tian analyzed frequency of each letter in the words and created this specialized Mahjong game to help students remember words.
Students had a great time playing it
