A "dead" man floating in a river in Maoming City, Guangdong Province, shocked rescuers when he suddenly opened his eyes and was back to life, Chongqing Morning Post reported.
A video shot on August 20 showed the whole scary process.
At the beginning, a man is seen floating lifelessly in the river whom the onlookers believed has drowned. Then someone called 110 for help.
Later a firefighter cautiously approaches him, trying to get the “body.”
Suddenly, to everyone's surprise, the “dead” man sat up in the water.
Onlookers on the riverbank couldn’t help but laugh as the frightened fireman rushes back to the shore.
Then the man lies down into the water again.
The video soon went viral on social media. Someone commented, "It does seem scary. Feel really sorry for the fireman!"
According to a statement issued by local public security bureau on Weibo, the man explained that he was just fishing in the water.
After watching the video clip, netizens named the man "Bro Death Mimicry." Some even thought that he and the video maker probably made fun of the police.
Others blamed him for having wasted police force resources.
