A tourist posted a video on Weibo on November 7 in which an injured husky dog was put into a wolves’ inhabitant at Dezhou Zoo in Shandong Province.
Many netizens questioned the management of the zoo and expressed concerns over the wounded dog.
According to a zoo keeper, the dog is a husky-wolf hybrid.
Zoo officials later responded in a statement on November 9 saying, "It's true that we are keeping a husky in the wolf enclosure. The dog was brought to the zoo together with the wolves to add some fun for tourists. The dog enjoys respect from the wolf family."
The zoo also said that the dog and the wolves had lived together for more than two months and got along with each other very well. They explained that the injury was not caused by wolves' attack but from a random scratch in the enclosure.
The dog is recovering well after medical treatment and has been separated from wolves.
