Dramatic images of a man driving his car into the office of the Civil Affairs Bureau of Wujiang District in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, have been widely shared among Chinese Internet users. The incident happened on January 5.
Police have stated that the driver, a man surnamed Li, was intoxicated.
According to media reports, Li’s wife had asked him for a divorce just days earlier. The couple had agreed to meet at the office to get a divorce, but Li reportedly changed his mind. After quarreling in the parking lot, Li’s wife left alone.
Under the influence of alcohol, Li then drove his car into the front door of the office. He suffered spinal injuries in the incident.
He is now out on bail pending trial.
