Brave policeman becomes a hero after preventing major accident

A quick-thinking police officer prevented what could have been a major catastrophe after a road collapsed on Jianghuai Road, Nantong, Jiangsu Province, on Saturday.

The policeman, Cao Damao, and his colleague, dashed into action and immediately evacuated people, and their vehicles, from the area to prevent any injury, damage or further loss, after one car disappeared in the sunken road.

A young woman arrived late at the scene, after receiving a call from the police to inform her that her car was also danger of being damaged. But when she saw her black car precariously stationed near to the disintegrating road the woman was too afraid to move it.

Without thinking, Cao, took the key from her, jumped into the car and drove it to a safe area. And, it wasn’t a moment too soon, because when the police officer returned to the scene of where the car was parked, he saw that the road had completely collapsed leaving a 200 square meter hole, in its place, in the road.

Cao, who has been a policeman for 10 years, said he had no time to think about the consequences of moving the car.

"Saving a car for the owner, was a risk worth taking," he said.

The police officer drew praise on social media by those who had witnessed his bravery and quick-thinking online. Although one netizen said: “Such an action was too dangerous and shouldn't be encouraged as life is more important than anything."
